Here's a poem, my poem of the month
80 MPH
IM REVVED UP, SO READY
IM GOING FASTER THAN
THE SUGGESTED SPEED
HUGGING THE INSIDES
OF THESE WINDING HIGHWAY ROADS’
THEY THINK THEY’RE SO NARROW
THEY THINK THEIR CURVES ARE NICE
BUT IM PASSING RIGHT THROUGH THEM
IM DRIVING AS THE CROW FLIES
AND HAVING DEVIOUS THOUGHTS
ALMOST DEVILLISH REVELATIONS
SOMEONE AUGHT TO
PULL ME OVER
THE WINDOWS DOWN
I TAKE EVERY SOUND AT ITS LOUDEST
I’M HITTING 80 MPH AND 90
BUT A TRUCK STARTS PASSING
AND ITS HISSING EVEN FASTER
AND MY HALF ROLLED WINDOWS
ARE CHATTERING AND NERVOUS
ITS PASSES AND ON ITS BIG
BLANK CANVAS OF A CONTAINER
THE TRUCK SAYS
“FEAR THYSELF”
ITS SNARLING, BUT NOT MAD
MY HEART AND MOTOR RACING
MY DEVILLISH THOUGHTS GET QUIET
TWO MORE TRUCKS WIZ BY
“NOT AFRAID OF TRUCKS”
I LEAN IN TO THE GAS
THE WINDOWS HIDE INSIDE THE DOORS
THE WINDING HIGHWAY ROAD
THE CAR HUMS AND HUGS
IM NOT AFRAID OF TRUCKS
THE AIR CHIMES IN AS I RUSH ON
